I have recently been in discussion around acceptance. I have found this concept sometimes misleading. When I allow the word acceptance to land in my body I have a construct that serenity must surely follow. This I can attest is not my reality. The experience that serenity does not follow has left me confused and sad. What I have come to experience now is acceptance is a base line for me to be in whatever else may follow.
When I am being with my clients I make intentions to put my life-experiences in a bowl on the right and my academic education in a bowl on the left so I can make space for the Being who is in front of me as they are. I have an intention to make space for acceptance – what follows here is significant for me:
I can accept the Being and simultaneously have internal experiences of shock || anger || discomfort . Creating the internal space facilitates my process of allowing it all land in a land of acceptance.
Much love,
Kate
