My love for poetry is a recent affair ! I was reflecting on what attracts me and turns me on to reading and writing words. The experience of reading or hearing another’s way of expression or an insight that can reach me; expanding my own or opening a new window, is likened to a shower of unwrapped and wrapped gifts.
As I write I am likening my poetry affair to my coaching skills and a deep pull to continuously keeping myself present and curious with the being in front of me and the experience that we are having.
This poem below – on the very first reading I was in love, straight into my heart space the words danced. I expanded and connected and any aloneness I may have had melted. It encapsulates so many facets of being human that I love and that bring me pain.
Allow
There is no controlling life.
Try corralling a lightning bolt,
containing a tornado. Dam a
stream and it will create a new
channel. Resist, and the tide
will sweep you off your feet.
Allow, and grace will carry
you to higher ground. The only
safety lies in letting it all in –
the wild and the weak; fear,
fantasies, failures and success.
When loss rips off the doors of
the heart, or sadness veils your
vision with despair, practice
becomes simply bearing the truth.
In the choice to let go of your
known way of being, the whole
world is revealed to your new eyes
